Amstrad CPC6128

The CPC6128 of 1985 moved Amstrad's all-in-one family upmarket. It paired a generous 128K of memory with a built-in three-inch disk drive in place of the usual cassette deck, making loading and saving faster and far less of a chore than the endless waiting that tape demanded.

That combination of more memory and proper disk storage made the 6128 a credible machine for productivity as well as play, and built-in support for a popular business operating system opened the door to a whole world of serious software. It was a CPC you could genuinely get work done on.

It kept Amstrad competitive against newer rivals from Sinclair and Commodore, and it remains a fondly remembered favourite of the range. Capable, practical and well equipped, the 6128 was the CPC grown up: the model for buyers who wanted the friendly all-in-one approach without the limitations of tape.
